Walking down, down downtown

The California branch of the Kauffman family took a walking tour of historical sights in downtown Saint Louis.

In front of the old Union Station, now a hotel and mall. The trains don't stop here any more. Pictured: Carrie Shook, Bob Hines, Jennifer Lasell, Sara Hines, Andy Kauffman III, Lowell Whiting.

The group in front of the Old Courthouse. The fountain has been dyed red in honor of the St. Louis Cardinals making it to the playoffs. The St. Louis Arch is in the background. The Old Courthouse is the location where the slave Dred Scott first sued for his freedom in the famous case from 1846-1857. The US Supreme Court ruled against the Scott family in a landmark decision whose outcry contributed to the beginning of the Civil War.
